My research interests are in linear/nonlinear equations, radiative transfer problems, multilevel methods for integral equations, optimal control, optimization of noisy functions, flow in porous media, and computational quantum chemistry and physics. I am a proud member of the NCSU Numerical Analysis Group and am very active in SIAM .

I distribute MATLAB software for Linear Equations, Nonlinear Equations, and Optimization . Our group supports MATLAB codes for optimization of noisy functions.

Professional Data: recent publications and tech reports , presentations and talks , complete vita ,
undergraduate RAs , current and former Ph. D. students, my mathematical family tree .

They made me a fellow of the AAAS .

Katie did it again! Jesse Clark-Stone is my latest academic grandchild.

Austin Ellis has left the building. He defended his thesis on Oct 17 and will start his new job at Sandia in November.

I have been reelected chair of the SIAM Board of Trustees for 2018.

Former students score! Read what SIAM News and the NSF say about the work Katie Kavanagh and Lea Jenkins do on sustainabilty.

More production from Katie! Benjamin Ritz is my latest academic grandchild.

I'll be making new videos for MA 580 in the Fall of 2017. Here's a link to the old recorded lectures .

Alex Toth has left the building. He defended on March 29, 2016 and is now a postdoc at Sandia.

Here's my talk in the First-Year Student Seminar

Why publish with SIAM?

The Mathematics Department at Purdue gave me the outstanding Alumnus Award for 2013.

I'm somebody now! Scroll to the bottom of Henk van der Vorst's math portrait page.

Why should you join SIAM ?

A REALLY OLD picture.
